MASSACHUSETTS — Whether you call them UFOs or UAPs, Tuesday is World UFO Day, and Massachusetts has more sightings than most other states in the country.
The National UFO Reporting Center has been cataloging UFO sightings since 1974, and since then, there have been 2,737 sightings reported in the Bay State. With more datapoints than ever, they are helping to debunk or admit sightings are unexplained and unexplainable…for now.
There have been 24 registered sightings of UFOs across Massachusetts so far this year. Of the reported incidents, six have been explained by the center as rocket launches, two by a balloon, one by a drone, and one by a planet or star. Still, that leaves 14 Massachusetts sightings that remain question marks, according to the center.
The sightings this year were reported in a variety of towns, from Boston to Springfield and beyond.
Among the most interesting reports over the past six months comes from Melrose, where at 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 21 a local reported seeing a diamond-shaped UFO “about 200 feet from the ground, causing ground to shake and emitting a deafening humming noise while flashing lights into our car.”
In Reading just after 4 p.m. on March 17, someone reported seeing an ‘upright chrome disk that moved unnaturally and changed positions instantly.’
In one of the most recent reports, a person in Watertown said they saw ‘spiky black Volkswagen Bug sized and shaped object flying 80 miles per hour and 500 feet in the air go over a house.’
“No sound, looked evil,” the report said.
The sighting numbers are a far cry from California’s, the mothership for UFO sightings at 16,399 reports — more than any other state in the nation — since 1974. But Massachusetts does have its fair share of UFO sighting reports, with numbers bigger than those of 66 percent of the other United States.
If you’re uncertain whether you’ve seen a UFO, the National UFO database offers some suggestions that may explain your questions. Otherwise, share your experience. After all, the truth is out there.
