GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — In the summer of 1947, a rancher 75 miles from Roswell, New Mexico found a crashed unidentified flying object.
The wreckage was quickly scooped up by the Roswell Army Airfield, who claimed it was debris from a weather balloon.
Rumors and conspiracies surrounded the government’s story, and almost 50 years later, the Air Force released a statement saying the weather balloon story was bogus – it was actually a classified military aircraft designed to spy on the Russians.
Ever since the 1940s, World UFO Day has been on July 2, the day the Roswell Daily Record wrote about the mysterious crash.
But are UFO sightings even a local thing? Montrose local CJ Brafford and Grand Junction local David Gross say yes.
Check out the video above to hear their stories firsthand.
Whether it’s aliens, classified tech or just an illusion – you decide. Happy World UFO Day!
