ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – Roswell’s UFO Festival is set for takeoff on Friday, but one guest is getting national attention for how they are getting there.
Steve Anderson, 67, took the trip of a lifetime, driving a UFO car from Indiana to the Festival in Roswell this week. The flying saucer car went through a rainstorm during the 18-hour journey, but it also got stopped by police in two different states.
Law enforcement from Missouri, Oklahoma, and even Roswell stopped to take pictures of the car, which Anderson made over a decade ago with a 1991 Geo Metro. “I’ve been doing this for 19 years, and that’s the first occasion I’ve seen a vehicle like that traveling down the interstate,” said Sheriff Adam Carnal with the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department in Missouri.

Anderson says he is aware of the attention his car gets, saying it takes him up to an hour to fill up his gas tank since people always stop him to take pictures.
This latest trip to Roswell also led Anderson to get calls from the national and international press. Anderson said his slogan during the car’s construction was “to bring smiles for miles.”
Anderson says there are three rules to get a ride in the UFO: Wear the alien glasses, have a ray gun for protection, and always act like an 8-year-old. “I said, ‘Life is too short; you’ve got to have fun,’” said Anderson.
Roswell’s UFO festival runs from July 5 to 7. Anderson says he will be in Roswell until Tuesday, and then he will make the drive to Area 51.
