Moment ‘UFO’ flies above UK town as ‘strange’ dark mass spotted in the sky

A woman who filmed the incident likened the mysterious object, spotted on Friday, to something out of Harry Potter as she filmed the dark ‘craft’ drifting through the sky

A woman was left bemused after looking up at the sky only to spot something unusual floating high above her.

The resident in Bellshill, a Lanarkshire town around 10 miles west of miles southeast of Glasgow, quickly grabbed her camera and began filming the ‘strange’ dark mass. During the minute-and-a-half video the ‘UFO’ is seen meandering through the air from side to side.

At various points it even appears to change shape against a sky of white clouds and blue sky. The amazed witness told GlasgowLive: “The skies have been beautiful lately with bright colours and when I heard the helicopter for the third time that day, I did look up and I caught a glimpse out the corner of my eye of it.”

The woman went on to liken it to something out of Harry Potter, with the object reminiscent of Dementor phantoms from the films. “It was the way it was moving that made me want a closer look. I just thought it was strange and reminded me of something out of Harry Potter the closer it got,” she said.

A more earthly description of the ‘craft’ was also offered, as she said: “Even at one point it did look like a giant chicken but still dark even when it passed over my house.” The mysterious footage has also garnered a handful of comments from other confused viewers. One wrote: “Saw something similar many years ago in Dalgety Bay. Very strange. Definitely wasn’t balloons,” and another added: “Thought it was a binbag at first but it’s not.”

In other UFO news, a video posted by ‘nocontextmemes’ on X (formerly Twitter) had everyone talking. The clip, which has so far been viewed over 11 million times, shows what appears to be a large tent swirling around the sky as the owner can be heard less than optimistically shouting “It might come back”.

One user seemed very sure about what he was witnessing in the video, saying: “That’s obviously a UFO, once it studies enough humans it’s not coming back.” Another admitted that while they are a believer in genuine UFO sightings, this wasn’t one of them, she said: “I fully believe in UFOs/UAPs but I also think that stuff like this accounts for like 95% of reported sightings lol.” Another person added: “On the other side of the valley is some hiker videoing what he believes to be the most historic photo of a UFO ever taken.”
