The Pentagon launches a secure portal for reporting UFO sightings, expanding eligibility in the future. AARO leads UAP documentation and analysis
The US Department of Defense launched a new portal on Tuesday, allowing current and former service members, government employees, and contractors to report UFO sightings.
This secure online form will assist the Department of Defense’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) in gathering accounts of unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) sightings for the congressionally mandated Historical Record Report, due to Congress by June 2024.
In a statement, the Pentagon said that this phase of the secure reporting mechanism is for “current or former US government employees, service members, or contractors with direct knowledge of alleged US government programs or activities related to UAP dating back to 1945.”
The AARO’s website stresses that the platform is not intended for conveying potentially sensitive or classified information. Active military personnel and contractors are encouraged to report UAPs through their respective service branches or federal agencies. The website also urges civilian pilots to report unidentified objects to air traffic control, which then submits UAP-related sightings to the Federal Aviation Administration. In the future, reporting eligibility will be extended to the general public for any event related to UAP.
AARO Director Sean Kirkpatrick strongly encouraged current and former government employees and contractors to use the new form to report UAP activity. Kirkpatrick said “We want to hear from you,” and acknowledged public interest in reporting UAP sightings to AARO. They are exploring methods for public reporting in the forthcoming third phase of the secure reporting mechanism.
The AARO is at the forefront of the Department of Defense’s efforts to document, analyze, and resolve reports of unidentified aerial phenomena. In addition to the forthcoming historical report, the agency is required to produce an annual report on UAP activity.
Their recent annual report revealed that they have investigated nearly 300 UFO sightings over the past year, according to the New York Post. Some of these sightings raised concerns due to the flying objects’ high-speed travel and unusual maneuverability.
