A former United States military official went public a few years ago concerning how the government lacks transparency with regards to its investigations of UFOs.
This official is once again making headlines as he continues to discuss the topic in an upcoming book.
People reports how Luis Elizondo — a veteran of the war in Afghanistan and a former U.S. Army Counterintelligence Special Agent — shook things up about seven years ago when he resigned from the latter position, specifically from a top-secret Pentagon job that looked into UFOs.
According to Elizondo, it was during his time in this program — officially called the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program — that he began to fully believe that all the sightings and encounters recorded by other military personnel posed potential threats to our nation.
“The amount of stigma and taboo that was placed on this topic for so long has really paralyzed the conversation,” told Elizondo to People. “But these things are real.
“We don’t know what they are yet, but they are real, so we should probably take them seriously.”
As The New York Times explains, when Elizondo tried to get high-ranking officials to address said potential dangers, leading to the now famous congressional inquiries into the matter. His new book — “Imminent: Inside the Pentagon’s Hunt For UFOs” — goes even deeper.
“It had to be reviewed by the Pentagon, which took almost a year,” said the 52-year-old of the book’s publishing process.”
The same Times article states how Department of Defense spokeswoman, Sue Gough, has confirmed that the program is still continuing its review of historical UFO records but “has not discovered any verifiable information to substantiate claims that any programs regarding the possession of reverse-engineering of extraterrestrial materials have existed in the past or exist currently.”
