Bar to close its doors in mid-June.
Corktown bar and live music venue UFO Factory is permanently closing in mid-June, its owners said Monday in an Instagram post.
“(We) are getting out of the bar/restaurant/venue biz! It’s been a real cool time but we are moving on to other projects,” owners Matthew Bihun, Dion Fischer and Aliccia Bollig-Fischer said in a statement. “We will miss the music, art, fun and the #ufopeople most of all.”
The owners took over the building, located at 2110 Trumbull, in 2012. In 2014, they opened the UFO Factory, a dive bar with arcade games, artisan hot dogs, beer and grilled cheeses.
The original building dates back to 1938. In 2017, the venue was struck by a cement mixer from construction crews working on a $44 million project next door, which damaged the building’s foundation and rendered it a safety hazard. UFO Factory was forced to temporarily shut down but it later reopened after fundraisers were held to keep the building alive.
The owners did not say what was next for the space, but teased that their clientele would be happy.
“Fear not if you loved OUR #ufoFACTORY you are likely to be pleased with the next evolution (more info coming soon),” the statement read.
The building will retain normal hours “and plenty of classic style ufo events” through its June 15 closing, the post read.
